Former Bills offensive line great Kent Hull as passed away at the age of 51.

Personally, Hull was the one offensive linemen I knew about when the Bills were making their Super Bowl appearances (I was age 4-7 during that period). This was in part due to him being the best player on the outstanding unit, and partly because I had a card with him on it (pictured), thus burning his face in my memory.

Check here for a link describing  Hull’s post football life.  The article describes a man who worked hard and liked to enjoy himself. The first quote from Hull is as follows: “”I can pee off my back porch, and there’s nobody that can see me.” By all accounts, Hull liked to party (an old rumor had it that during the one of the Super Bowls, Jim Kelly called the entire game out of shotgun because he refused to go under center of the hung-over Hull).

One can’t help but wonder if the fact that Hull died so young was a result of football related injuries. If that turns out to be the case, expect discussions regarding post career health of NFL players to become a major topic once again.

Nonetheless, it’s always a sad day when a Bills Wall of Famer dies, and even sadder when it’s at a young age. Our prayers are with his family.
